Traveling on the highway at 60 MPH when the closed sunroof spontaneously exploded with no warning. Glass landed on my daughter and myself. VW of America is claiming it broke due to outside influence.
They are offering to replace the broken glass, but not repair the damage to the paint on the roof and sides of the car as well as the damaged roof rails. My panoramic sunroof exploded spontaneously.
The dealership in area is owning the problem and helpful. VW America was initially rude and difficult. I'm in a holding pattern to see how they will handle my request to trade the vehicle for a safe one without a sunroof, as this is a documented and known material defect. Panoramic Sunroof Leaking? Thread starter chill Start date Oct 11, Messages 1 Reactions 0. I am looking at purchasing a Alltrack SE, however, I have heard concerns about the panoramic sunroof leaking.Pt night sights
Has anyone experienced this? I emailed service managers at several different VW dealerships to see if they are seeing this issue. One service manager said, "The panoramic sunroof has had some issues in the past, but we have not seen any leakage on the newest version sunroof.
It had a body seam that the weld was not done properly. I always recommend to customers with vehicles equipped with sunroofs to have the drains and channels cleaned out with compressed air.
How to Clean Sunroof Drain Plugs on a VW
Especially when vehicles are parked outside as opposed to in a carport or garage, debris can find its way through the seals and into the water channels that drain excess water during heavy rain. If the channels backup, they usually will leak onto the floorboards or right next to the sun visors.
Winchy Member Oct 11, Messages 65 Reactions 0.Greetings All, Perhaps this question has been asked and answered elsewhere, but I haven't found it. I have found a lot of info on leaky sunroofs, but nothing pertaining to the large sunroof on the JSW, so here goes. I have noticed during heavy rains that my front driver side floorboard is getting wet and stinking up the car. Upon inspection after removing the fuse panel cover, it appears that water is dripping down from the front left head liner that runs down along the left-hand side of the front windscreen.
This is right in the corner inside the door jam, and even though I haven't had any electrical trouble, the water drips directly down across all of the fuses! Great stuff. There are many well documented threads on how to clean drain plugs on the older sunroofs.
Does anyone know how to check the drain on this sunroof? Do I have to tear out the headliner to deal with this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Ryan. Time to take it to the dealer for some warranty work!! Not surprised that its leaking; that's a lot for glass to gasket properly. That response doesn't help very much. I am far from a dealer and like to do small stuff my self, does anyone know where the sunroof drains are as I cannot find them and my roof is leaking like a sieve.

Despite the fact that it is a Pano, the main reason for leaks is still clogged drains. Look up procedures for regular roofs, and try to find 4 drain holes 2 front, 2 rear. The other possibility is that the drain tube is detached at the corner of the SR and the headliner will have to come down. I vote for taking it to the dealer. I thought it was the sunroof as many people claimed but soon determined all the drains were working properly. The water often drips onto my left foot as I drive but I can not identify the place of entry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bob. See it, between the engine and the windshield:. You stated that you checked… How did you check may I ask?
There should be 4 of them…2 forward and 2 Aft. They usually terminate in a rubber boot that has an anti critter tip on it… Often times you need to squeeze this tube end in order to help the crud that is inside get through the end. The Sunroof depends very heavily on these drain tubes…Not only being able to drain…but being able to drain Fast Enough….
So it is not enough to simply look to see water dripping from the drain tubes end… You really need to verify and test. I checked the sunroof drains by running a plastic cord through them and then pouring water into them.
All seemed to flow very well. I had to remove that cowl cover on years old vehicle for unrelated reason replacing struts and the amount of trash there was terrible, almost to the point of blocking drains, although it was not that much dirty from the outside.
The car is in the shop right now getting a new core support. When that is done I will be giving a lot of attention to the leak. But for another idea, the drivers side door drain might be plugged up. Any water that gets inside the door is supposed to just drain right back out through small holes in the bottom of the door.
It could be a plugged drain for the vent area in front of the windshield. The first thing I was going to suggest was to very and check all of the drains for the Sunroof.

Hi, Thank you very much for your reply. BUT, I did not remove the fender panels and manipulate them to verify they were completely open. I will get on with this, and look into the drain in the vent area as well.
Thanks again, Bob. I think it is safe to say we agree on a plan. Thanks again for your help.Pano sunroof. Is there anything about it that should make me stay away from getting a SportWagen with one? I'm looking to get a SportWagen this week, and absolutely love the panoramic sunroof. That said, I want to be able to use my roof on road trips to tie things up there. Basically use the roof racks.
Would having the glass roof hinder me? Is there anything else like leaks that are common? I'm basically looking for a reason to not get one with the sun roof.how to replace sunshade audi q5
I love my Panorama Sunroof on my '10 Sportwagen. It makes driving it that much more fun.Google tricks games
I literally appreciate it every time I drive my car. It's also lots of fun to show off to friends. I got the car certified used back in March and the sunroof drains did clog in July.
Also, I Park under a lot of trees every day at work, so that could have definitely contributed. The only argument I've ever seen against one is that it costs more for an extra lbs on your roof. I couldn't actually find a Sportwagen in a manual in Houston when I bought mine, so I had to order one.
Was pretty cool getting to drive it off the boat though.Bert tokenizer
Dang, that does sound cool! I have only driven a stick once and that was just a couple of months ago when I took a driver's ed class in my mid 30's!!! I'd be pretty funny watching me trying to drive my manual off the boat OR the lot. I have a '12 Sportwagen with one. If I could go back and do it over again I'd pass.If you are having issues with water inside the cabin of your Volkswagen and have a sunroof, chances are your sunroof drains may be clogged.
Keeping these clean will prevent leaks and water damage and ensure rainwater is properly drained from the car. Anyone with a sunroof should be performing this maintenance on a regular basis.
Locate the position of your drains and the nipples. There will be four: two in the front and two in the rear. The drain holes will be in the four corners of the sunroof.
The drain nipples will be on the front side of either door jam. The rear ones may vary from car to car but are generally located on either side of the rear bumper.
Clear the debris from the nipples. This can be done by massaging them to free up debris and other gunk that may have built up. Test drainage by pouring a small amount of water into the areas where the drain holes are located. Observe the nipples and ensure water is flowing out of each one freely.Serial available arduino
Do not use too much water, as if they are clogged the water will obviously not pass through. Stop here if water is flowing freely. There is no need to clean the drains. If there is blockage, proceed to the next step. Use a flexible rod be sure it is not sharp; it could puncture the lines and gently prod through the holes to attempt to free the clog. Repeat Step 3 and see if there is any improvement. If not, you can attempt to dig further. If at any time you do not feel comfortable attempting to clean it, stop and consult with a registered Volkswagen technician.
