Net Forums General Hardware General. Solved 3 beeps on startup. Hi, My computer has started making 3 beeps on start up and no video comes up on the screen and the keyboard and mouse dont have power.

This has been happening for a while now but i normally just restart it and it works fine. Tonight i was using my computer and it crashed and got blue screened. I restarted it and got the 3 beeps at the start.

Tried to restart it again and the same thing. I tried like 10 times and still got the 3 beeps and nothing else. I have searched up the problem and was told to remove the ram sticks. I tired doing this; removing 1 stick, removing the other stick, removing both sticks, and i still get the 3 beeps on start up and nothing else. What can i do to fix this? I really need to because i have heaps of assignments due soon. S bit of a computer dummie so easy to understand words etc would be helpful.

The 3 beeps often means, that the first 64 KByte of internal processor memory are not accessable. This could mean, the processor is corrupt. But when you say, after several tries, it's running normal up to a blue screen during a computer session, I guess, it's a thermal problem.Menu Menu. Search Everywhere Threads This forum This thread.

Every computer runs a quick test before booting to make sure everything is functioning properly. This quick test is your PC's way of making sure everything's working fine before it proceeds to the boot sequence—sort of like NASA engineers checking all the rockets prior to launch.

It looks like the computer is taking an inventory of all the connected components. Some motherboards even display two-digit codes on the board itself see photo. First, note the pattern of beeps. It could be one long beep, or one short, one long, etc. It varies according to the situation. While deciphering those codes will likely get you close to understanding what the problem is, a final thing to keep in mind is that beeps of death will often come calling after you change something in your computer—a new stick of memory, for instance, or a hard drive.

If that's the case, the first thing to do is to double-check cables and connections. If the beeping persists, undo whatever upgrade you just did. If the beeps go away, you have your culprit. Reinstall the thing and see how it goes. Note: When you purchase something after clicking links in our articles, we may earn a small commission. Read our affiliate link policy for more details.

Repair PC with Beep Sound & No Display - PC Beep Problem Solved

Related: Hardware Home Tech Troubleshooting.Recently my computer has started to beep at me while it's running. I have experienced no performance issues since the beeping but it is worrying especially as the beeping increases under load at certain times. Also every time it beeps I hear a spinning sound slowing down and then suddenly picking up speed again accompanied with a click. Not sure it if its a fan or not. All fans are working and monitoring temperatures it is not exceeding its limits even under load.

Idle it will beep once a minute and under load the beeps can become 3 seconds apart. Please can someone answer why my machine is doing this? Too clarify, my computer is not over heating. I had overheating problems long time ago in the past and ever since always monitor it. CPU idle's at C, peaks at most 65 C under heavy gaming including recording. GPU never peaks more then 60 C. I have noted certain problems with hard drive last 6 months with transferring and copying and when I think about it I get a lot of beeping and clicking with the spinning when FRAPSing, adding big amounts of data to the hard drive.

Curiosity I decided to reseat the HDD in another position was previously wedged in a floppy drive slot and checked all connections. Fired up computer and is now perfectly quiet, hopefully that's all it was as the hard drive was in that position for almost 2 years with no problems lol.

Thanks for all your help! Definitely sounds like an hard drive is on its way out. Prepare for that to happen and back up any stuff that's not replaceable. The first thing that comes to mind is overheating.

In this case it could be that the beeping is warning you of a problem that is getting worse before the unit is damaged or shuts itself down. Power your computer down and then turn it back on while pressing the key. If the computer is too hot, you might need to repair or replace your fan.

You should also clean your computer of dust and debris - you can gently use a vacuum but canned air is the best technique - which lowers the temperature by removing extra insulation and improving air circulation.

I don't think heat is the issue, but if your worried download HWMonitor and run it. It will track your max temperatures. It could possibly be something on the motherboard.

A cardboard paper towel tube works well to isolate the noise. And check for any wires in contact with fans. That's about all I can think of at the moment.

Maybe try your PC on a different electrical outlet, preferably on a different circuit. If it's a custom build PC check your mobo manual for trouble shooting. View Profile View Posts. Start unplugging stuff. Load up the game, if the sound comes back, unplug the audio cable and the monitor while the game is running. If it still happens, try to get a new drive.

Replace the cpu fan. Swapping with a case fan works the same, they're all fans. If it still happens, then it's your motherboard. It could be a small fan in your motherboard that's cooling your chipset that's making the sound. You can take it out, as long as you install a fan somewhere to cool it.

Alternatively, unplug the motherboard speaker if it has one. You don't really need it. It would just make it difficult to diagnose boot problems, at which point you could just plug it back in later.Menu Menu. Search Everywhere Threads This forum This thread.

Tiburon11 Junior Member. Dec 16, 14 0 0. This is not a beep while booting, just a random beep from inside my computer while it is running. It is a single, short beep. It occurs maybe once every hour. My temperatures seem fine cpu doesn't get hotter than about 50C under load.

I've read that voltage variances can cause beeps like this, but mine seem decent: CPU Core 1.

computer beeps 3 times while running

I've been through my bios many times. Enabling and disabling things like smart fan has had no effect. I've disabled the beep service in windows, and nothing changed. I cannot seem to find a correlation between the beep and anything else. I hear beeps when my computer is idling with nothing running, as well as when I am doing more intensive activities like playing games.

It does seem to occur more often when first starting programs, or browsing through files, but it may just be my imagination. Also, it does sound like there is a lot of hard drive activity when one occurs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
